WHRO’s FALL RADIO COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN SURPASSES 2005 RESULT

HAMPTON ROADS:  Public radio stations WHRO and WHRV announced today that the Fall on-air community fundraising campaign shattered last year’s record by 12% raising a whopping $478,600 through telephone and on-line pledges. During the two week pledge period, the two stations raised $430,176 in telephone pledges made in response to on-air solicitations, and another $48,424 on-line.  These figures represent an increase of 11% over the goal and 12% over the total raised in the fall 2005 radio fundraiser.

“We are delighted with this affirmation of the value of our public radio services to Hampton Roads,” said Regina Brayboy, WHRO Chief Communications Officer.  “Community support is a vital source of revenue as we face continuing funding, competitive and technological challenges.  Working together with the community, public radio in Hampton Roads will continue to be the premier source of quality news, information, music and entertainment programming.”

“We are very fortunate in that not many communities can boast two full-time public radio stations,” said Virginia Thumm, Chief Development Officer for the public broadcaster, “and we are only one of very few regions in the country to have a station dedicated to a 24 hour classical music/fine arts format.  Through its generosity to both of our stations, this community has demonstrated that it values the diversity of the programming and services we offer.”
