WHRO LAUNCHES ONLINE CONNOISSEUR CLASSICS
On Demand Service Offers Serious and Less Oft-Heard Classical Music

Norfolk:  WHRO will launch Connoisseur Classics, a new on-line on demand radio service for serious classical music lovers, on December 1, 2008.  Programmed by WHRO veteran announcer Dr. Raymond Jones, Connoisseur Classics will offer programming not readily available from other classical outlets, exploring the music from the Middle Ages to the 21st Century – works rarely performed on mainstream radio and online media outlets.  These works will include full-length, obscure operas; out-of-print recordings; and works by lesser-known composers.  “Connoisseur Classics will present alternative classical music, designed for the more sophisticated and adventurous listener,” says 90.3 WHRO-FM Program Director Dwight Davis, “It promises to be an exciting adventure, and through online technology, we’re looking forward to attracting listeners from all over the world.”

The stream is available to online listeners by going to WHRO’s website, www.whro.org, and clicking on the Connoisseur Classics link.  Connoisseur Classics joins WHRO’s growing family of online radio programs, which includes The 1920s Radio Network, radioNtenna and the WHRO Radio Reading Service.

Connoisseur Classics will present the music of the Yuletide season during the month of December, and begin programming classical music on January 1, 2008, to start the New Year.
