WHRO BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
Four Tapped for Leadership Roles

Norfolk:  WHRO, the public broadcasting company that serves Hampton Roads with WHRO TV15, WHRV 89.5FM and WHRO 90.3FM and a multitude of educational and technological services, has new officers for its governing Board of Directors.  At its Annual Meeting on December 12th, the Board elected the following to lead the organization through the next fiscal year:

Chair:  Dr. Elizabeth L. Young    Following a long and distinguished career in public broadcasting, including leadership roles at National Public Radio, Dr. Young currently teaches part-time in the Joseph W. Luter III School of Business at Christopher Newport University, and recently completed 13 years of service on the board of directors of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.

Vice Chair:  Jack L. Ezzell, Jr.   Mr. Ezzell is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zel Technologies, LLC; (ZelTech) a Hampton, Virginia-based engineering and professional services company.  He currently serves as the Rector of the Board of Visitors for Norfolk State University, the Chairman of the Hampton Roads Industrial Development Authority; President of the CIVIC Leadership Institute.

Secretary:  Decker Anstrom     Mr. Anstrom is president and chief operating officer of Landmark Communications, Inc. and serves as chairman of The Weather Channel, which is owned by Landmark.  He serves on the Boards of the National Cable Television Association (NCTA) in Washington D.C.; the Comcast Corporation and the Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) Foundation.

Treasurer:  Dr. Carol S. Beers recently retired as Superintendent after a 22-year career in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System.  A former elementary school principal, she was also supervisor of the Gifted and Talented program.  She served on the National Joint Council for Learning Disabilities, the National Commission for Diverse Learners, and the Manuscript and Policy Review Board for the International Reading Association.

“WHRO is fortunate to have the leadership of such an exceptional and diverse group,” said Regina Brayboy, Chief Operating Officer, “particularly as we approach the important task of selecting a new President.  The commitment of these officers and all of our Board of Directors will be of tremendous help as a new Chief Executive guides the organization.”
