"My relationship with NPR began because of my long commute. At first, I thought music would handle it, but I was wrong. After a few months, I would enter my car asking myself "how can I endure this !*&$^^## waste of time again today?"
One day, I accidentally tuned my radio properly. Now I get in the car and wonder, "What is Diane covering today? Who will Tom interview? Wonder what I'll learn from Terry?" And if that's not gift enough, there's my news!
In the last year, NPR has become my most frequently cited source (even though I do read.) But its larger contribution is its constant stimulation: something said that challenges my beliefs; something I can mention in class; something that inspires me; something that makes me more connected with the world.
Thanks so much for these programs..."

"I so enjoyed the Neapolitan Dance by Empire Brass this morning on the way to work that I got on line and ordered it from Arkiv and made a donation to WHRO. I just wanted you to know how much of a lift it can be when something you play hits just the right note. Thanks and keep up the good work."

"I use NPR/PBS extensively in my Mass Media Classes at Hampton University. Often, I'll hear something on the radio on 89.5 WHRV-FM during the drive to campus. In the classroom, I play the streamed internet on the projection screen. Convergence!"

"I want to complement WHRO for that GREAT Nova program you had on Channel 15 last night from 8 PM - 10 PM about the trial involving Darwin's theories versus "Intelligent Design". That was one of the finest documentaries I've ever seen. We sat there enthralled.
That is Great Television. Lets see more of this sort of thing !"

“I was a supporter of your station long ago (before the availability of cable) due to the superior programming that you provided versus the other local channels. With the advent of cable and other sources for programming that appealed to me, I no longer supported WHRO and was unsure if PBS and its affiliates were still necessary and deserving of continued government and private donations to exist in the extensive cable programming environment. In one fell swoop, I have been totally converted!
I have just recently purchased my first digital/HD television. The programming that is currently available on WHRO HD is nothing short of fantastic! I find myself transfixed to my TV watching these spectacular shows. I can't even pick out one for special merit, they are all so great! I seldom watch much of anything else except WHRO since I bought my HD receiver. And since I am receiving the signal off air, I seldom even look at cable anymore. I have signed up as a member as of today. I will never doubt the relevance of PBS or WHRO again!”

“I listen to WHRO everywhere I can. I am an Air Force reservist from Richmond who spends a lot of time on active duty, deployed all over the world, from Virginia, Florida, and Connecticut to Germany, Kuwait, Qatar and other exotic locales…I am eternally grateful for your webcast services, which I use daily…”

I just wanted to drop a note to inform the team and members of NPR that I am making a pledge to WHRO and public radio for the first time ever.
A coworker asked a question today that once I really thought about it, it really resonated with me. How did I know about the proposed changes to the IRS tax code and their potential effects on the middle class? I, without thinking, mentioned that I scoured the news websites looking for details on the proposed changes. I found several articles that confirmed NPR’s report and started informing others about the purposed changes. Just a few minutes ago, I thought “How did I know that the changes were being purposed?” One simple answer, National Public Radio provided by WHRO.
Without the services of WHRO I would not have known. I would not have done additional research and begin to put my Senators and Congressmen on notice that this is not acceptable to me. WHRO really does provide me with information that I cannot get anywhere else. While the other major news networks regurgitate the same information; NPR does informative analysis of all of the news and yet somehow manages provide the stories that are important to me and my family. This is truly a valuable service that I would be proud to be a part of supporting. Thank you for all of the great work so far! Please use my pledge to continue keeping the public informed and helping to maintain a well informed public and a healthy democracy.
Sincerely

“A few weeks ago, I expressed concerns about the timely nature of traffic reports. Surprisingly, I received several emails from WHRV representatives. I was not expecting such attention, but more to my surprise, accommodative actions were taken to get commuters more extensive and timely reports. Many thanks to Sondra Woodward for including me in her circle of traffic reporters and Janet King for her willingness to help us have a better commute by providing secondary road reports.”
